People watching in Sweden is fabulous, because the Swedes dress really well (BOTH guys and girls) (hello, this is the home of H&M!!) (and everyone seems to like dancing at clubs, INCLUDING guys, which is less common in the US). Last night at Västgöta Nation’s Black & White party it was particularly good, as the majority of people were creatively wearing black and/or white for the best effect under the largest black lights I’ve ever seen. Some guys even painted their faces, which looked a little creepy but cool. Style highlights were a girl with half black half white tights (with one black and one white shoe), a guy in all black with a white bow tie, and the unwitting security guards, whose bright neon green jackets glowed brighter than anything else. This seemed to get them attention from the ladies (and some guys too, haha). I’m waiting to see if they post any good pictures on the nation’s homepage. Black light also seems to light up bleached hair- a good way to see if your friends and classmates are natural blonds? The DJs in the black (house music) room were surprisingly good, as I usually find house music monotonous, and the live saxophonist added a lot! The white (80s music) floor was fun but a lot of the nostalgic songs were Swedish- a far cry from my American college’s weekly 80s night dance night. Anyways, this Swedish hit is at least a year old, but I’ve rediscovered it and hope to hear it some place other than my room sometime soon. The chorus translates roughly to, ”everyone not dancing is a rapist.” Don’t ask me why, just dance.
