I am lucky to live with Swedes, and I think it’s generally the best way to learn about the foreign culture you’re living in. For example, before coming to Sweden I thought that only Asians took off their shoes when coming into someone’s house/flat/cardboard box. At house parties the entryway looks more like a shoe store attacked by a tornado than the nicely furnished and decorated place that it normally is. Also, I’ve noticed that Swedes generally put down the toilet seat, not just at home but in the nations, choir practice, restaurants, EVERYWHERE! I’ve gotten used to this and now, whenever I see an uncovered toilet I am slightly repulsed, but perhaps this is because I’m a girl and don’t look at the toilet while using it…
