I have gotten some compliments in Sweden that I am interesting because I am exotic. In other countries this usually refers to my half-Asian descent. However, in Sweden people seem to think that just being American makes me interesting. For the record, many Americans are NOT interesting at all. It is interesting how much Swedes self-hate with phrases such as, ”We all look the same,” and ”Swedes are boring.” Maybe I’m still new enough in Sweden to be interested by how Swedes look? Earlier today when I was across the bridge in Copenhagen, I think I saw more ugly people than I have since I returned from vacation in the US. I was certainly disappointed to follow the legs wearing cool silver combat boots up and find that the wearer was a woman of maybe 55 yrs old. I quickly returned to Sweden where people dress stylishly and more importantly, WEAR WHAT LOOKS GOOD ON THEM.
