As an intern for the U.N. in the Maldives, I get discounts at resorts during monsoon season, when the tourist season is low and vacancies are found at almost every resort. Last weekend, me and two of my flatmates, who are also my co-workers, decided to take advantage of these deals and and ended up spending two days at Meeru Island Resort. It was a gorgeous and peaceful getaway from the busy streets of the capital island of Male’. We also got upgraded to a jacuzzi water villa, and while in the water, we encountered two baby sharks and a manta ray. And yes, we escaped from getting bitten!
