At the beginning of every semester, The International Desk at Lund University organize Arrival day. The event was hosted at Ingvar Kamprad Designcentrum (IKDC) and together with many volunteering students the International Desk welcomed about 600 international students to Lund yesterday.
This semester, many students came from Singapore, Australia, Canada, and Germany. Some of them had been traveling for 30 hours, others just took the train in the early morning. They are going to spend the Spring semester with an exchange program or start a Master or Bachelor´s degree program at LU.
“I chose Lund because I wanted to study far from home” Lauren Bennett, 22, says. She is from Australia and she will be studying Economics at LU for one semester.
“I want to learn Swedish plus I always dreamed of living in Sweden” Lotta Sauren, 21, says. She is from Finland and, as Lauren, she will be here for the spring and will be studying Economics.
During Arrival Day, international students received support, such as information about accommodation and public transport. During the following orientation weeks, the International Desk has planned trips and events for the newcomers to discover more about Sweden and the city of Lund.
Mentor groups have already been assembled. Students already living in Lund are going to organize activities which will introduce new students to Swedish life and culture.
