Lundagård has talked to French students at Lund University about Macron's visit to Lund and their overall thoughts on their President. Here's what they had to say.
Esther, Erasmus student in Law
What do you think of Macron coming to Lund ?
– I think it’s a good thing at first sight because it shows that a President from a world power is interested in student cities and students in general.
What do you think of Macron in general ?
– I see him as a president who’s trying to get closer to French youth through these social networks. And this trip is a diplomatic one, it seems a little delicate given the current situation in France, with all the farm demonstrations.
Artem, Doctoral student in Neuroscience
What do you think of Macron coming to Lund ?
– I don’t think it makes much difference whether he comes or not. First of all, he’s not a President who makes me feel proud of France, so I don’t think this visit sends a good image of France to Sweden.
What do you think of Macron in general ?
– He’s not at all aligned with my political values, so I don’t have a very good image. He’s improving the lives of rich people and rich people only, and that’s not really my thing.
Matteo, Political Science student
What do you think of Macron coming to Lund ?
– I’m very happy that he is coming. I’m really happy that he is making the effort to visit students in Europe, especially considering that France holds an important position in the EU. It’s important that he shows his presence.
What do you think of Macron in general ?
– I really like Macron through his actions. I know he is criticized in France but his economy is going very strong especially considering the challenges post-Covid. Also, being a young president sends a positive and progressive image. As opposed to far right or left parties in France, he wants France to remain in Europe and I find that important.
Aidan, Erasmus student at LTH
What do you think of Macron coming to Lund ?
– I think it’s pretty cool that he’s coming to talk with students, but will it be taken into account? It’s also nice that it’s not just French students coming to the talk, it will bring new perspectives.
– I wonder if the farmers’ questions will be brought up. I don’t think it will come from someone other than a French person.
Romane, Erasmus student at LTH
What do you think of Macron coming to Lund ?
– I saw Macron’s poster about his arrival here, and I thought, what’s he doing here? I think the event was successful though, a lot of people want to see him talk . I hope the Swedish students will challenge him with the questions. In France, we talk a lot about agriculture, national versus European standards, so I’m curious to see what questions are asked here about the European Union.
What do you think of Macron in general ?
– I am not a supporter of Macron, but I am not opposed either. I find him too liberal. Let’s say that he is not exactly aligned with my political views.
